Leaving a narcissist is never simple — and no matter how prepared you think you are, it’s always more harrowing than expected. It’s treacherous terrain. But please hear this: you can do it — and it is so worth it.

I once believed I could plan every step of my exit with precision. I had a strategy. I was an attorney, after all. I had scheduled a consultation with a divorce lawyer, thinking I’d walk a careful, calculated path to freedom.

But narcissists sense when they’re losing control.

Before I ever made it to that consultation, everything unraveled. My ex began stalking me — then, one morning, locked me and our kids out of the house in the snow. That moment shattered any illusion of control I had. I went from being the planner to suddenly living in crisis mode — seeking a TPO with my attorney’s help, scrambling for safety, and living in a hotel with my children for a week.

The year that followed felt like a psychological thriller — full of twists, setbacks, and emotional landmines. But unlike a movie, I couldn’t turn it off. It was real. And brutal.

I lost almost everything.

But here’s the truth: none of what I lost was worth staying for. And what I gained? My freedom. My peace. My life. Things I never realized I was living without until I finally had them.

So if you're in the thick of it — preparing, escaping, surviving — know that you’re not alone. This space is here for you. Whether you're planning your exit, reeling from a traumatic escape, or years past your narcissist — share your story. Ask questions. Vent. Encourage someone else.

You’re not just surviving.
You’re reclaiming your life.

What’s your story?
